For those who didnt make it Palapa Joe is hosting an Celtic Music gathering soon, you dont want to miss it, it is fun! Para todos, muchas gracias y hasta pronto! (To everybody, thank you and until soon) JimmiĬeltic music group a hit at hotel Boca de IguanasīOCA DE IGUANAS, Jalisco, Mexico - The Celtic trio of Myranda O'Byrne, Michael Price, and Admiral Sylvia Fox put on a one-hour show Friday afternoon for about 40 in the beachfront bar of the hotel Boca de Iguanas. While they played, Jimmi Jorgensen and his bartender worked like mad to keep up with the margarita orders. What a combination - tequila, lime and Irish music. The songs were all lively and while no one jumped up to do any Irish jigs - or dance a reel - there was plenty of toe-tapping.The event was part social, and part fund-raiser, for a project to raise money to purchase some guitars. Great music, affordable drinks, awesome crowd and on top of it doing good (Arroyo Seco will soon be getting guitars), all at the same doesnt gets any better then this. (good morning to all) Just an quick thank you note to everybody who showed up yesterday for the Celtic Music event held in Hotel Boca de Iguanas. In Canada, this dynamic duo has aired on CBC radio and TV, played for Randy Bachman’s (of BTO) 60th birthday party, and continue to perform at numerous festivals, private clubs, and celebrations.

#Traditional celtic music for free#
The Triskele Celtic Duo have appeared for free in the area ‘just for the sheer joy of playing and sharing the music.’ They do appreciate donations while they’re here, however, to buy guitars for aspiring musicians in Arroyo Seco.

Rounding out the reels and jigs locally was guest fiddler Sylvia Fox, Arroyo Seco resident and La Manzanilla habitué. Residents of Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, they have been playing Celtic music for over 20 years. The two who make all this foot-tapping, spoon-slapping music are Myranda O’Byrne alternating between dulcimer and percussion, and husband Michael Price on acoustic bass guitar and harmonica. The Triskele Celtic Duo have delighted audiences with their lively blend of traditional Irish-Scottish-Welsh music at a number of area venues, including Boca de Iguanas, Palapa Joe’s, and the plaza during Friday tianguis. In a community where most of us grew up with the Beatles and the Stones, another musical genre from the British Isles hit just the right note recently in La Manzanilla. With four guitars - let the classes begin! A fund raiser a few weeks ago, coupled with money donated at the jardin in La Manzanilla, made enough for two additional instruments, one of which Myranda has already has in hand.

They donated a total of 1,000 pesos - enough to buy two medium-sized guitars which Myranda will use next season for music lessons. The attendees for the event - a fund-raiser for money to buy guitars to teach music in Arroyo Seco - were quite generous.

The sound system cooperated much better for the Boca show than at practice the night before. And the margaritas flowed a smoothly as the music. Mike, Myranda and Sylvia practice Music fanThe trio played again Monday afternoon - but this time for a largely English-speaking crowd in the upstairs area of the bar/restaurant at Boca de Iguana. Oops, I mean music makers. After the practice, our neighbor Dani and his group plugged in their keyboards and electric guitars and kept the music going for another couple of hours. ARROYO SECO, Jalisco, Mexico - Two days of music in Arroyo Seco by the Celtic Duo (plus Admiral Fox on her violin) - and a band from Barra de Navidad - had the pueblo rocking this Sunday and Monday.First, Mike, Myranda and Sylvia did an hour-long practice Sunday evening in the jardin and drew a crowd of about 75 - including at least 25 children, many of whom had already heard some of the songs at an earlier music gathering at the Pink Flamingo at a music night for los niños.The songs were lively and because many of the children were familiar with the tunes, there was a lot of enthusiastic percussion work going on with assorted tambourines and other noisemakers.
